Rules
Rules and regulations for the 8+ races
(If there are differences between the Danish and English rules the Danish are applicable)
The Danish Rowing Federations regatta rules with time trial and U-turn are applicable with the following amendments and adjustments:
- 1. The regatta course
- The course is marked 6.5 km long route in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour with one U-turn around buoys at the Lock. The start and finish is marked at the Nykredit building South of Langebro Bridge. Before the start all boats take place in the area between Langebro Bridge and Knippelsbro Bridge where the boats will be called forward by the pre-starter. From the start at the Nykredit building the boats row under Bryggebroen Bridge towards the lock in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour along the western side of the harbour. Shortly before the lock the boats make a U-turn around the buoys and row along the eastern part of the harbour towards the finish line at the Nykredit building.
- 2. The start
- The start is done as sequential flying start. Boats are called individually by the pre-starter to prepare for start. From the pre-start area to the start line there is approx. 150 meters, in which the crew are expected to reach full speed before crossing the start line. Shortly before crossing the start line an umpire calls "ATTENTION..." and at the moment the crew crosses the start line, the umpire calls "GO!" and the time starts running for the crew. There is 30-45 seconds between each crew start.
- 3. No-overtake Buoy
- A "No-overtaking" buoy has been placed approx. 75 meters before the halfway U-turn. If two boats approach the U-turn side by side, the boat that passes the "No-overtaking" buoy first, gains the advantage to make the U-turn first. The other boat must fall back or pull to the side, to give way to the leading boat. An umpire is situated close to the spot and will call the trailing boat to give way, in hard-to-decide situations. It is not allowed to overtake between the "No-overtaking" buoy and the last buoy at the turn around. If the rules are not followed it could result in time penalties at the umpires decision.
- 4. Times
- Time calculation is settled as time trial with floating start.
- 5. Handicap calculation for eights
- For the handicap calculation the otterlige rules will be used:
- Work out your crew's H-factor with the handicap calculator
- 6. Seeding of the boats
- In each class the boats are started according to their estimated real-time speed. The fastest boats will be started first.
- 7. Weighing
- Control weighings of coxes before and after the race can take place.
- 8. Registration
- The ordinary registration must take place at least ten days before the regatta. Late sign-up of teams has to be applied at 18:00, two days before the regatta.
- 9. Launching of boats
- Eights must be launched from Copenhagen Rowing Club as the boats have to be checked by umpires before the race. If the boats are launched from other clubs (e.g. Bryggens Roklub or ARK) the team will not be allowed to participate in the race.
Rules and regulations for the coastal and inrigger races
(If there are differences between the Danish and English rules the Danish are applicable)
The Danish Rowing Federations regatta rules with time trial and U-turn are applicable. This means that a certified touring cox is not required in the boats. The following amendments and adjustments apply:
- 1. The regatta course
- The course is a marked 6.5 km long route in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour with a U-turn around buoys. The start and finish is marked at Nykredit, South of Langebro Bridge. Before the start all boats take place in the area between Langebro Bridge and Knippelsbro Bridge where the boats will be called forward on the starter's command. From the start at the Nykredit headquarters the boats row under Bryggebroen Bridge towards the lock in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour along the Zealand side of the harbour. At the lock the boats make a U-turn around the buoys and row back along the Amager side towards the finish.
- 2. The start
- The start is done as sequential flying start. Boats are called individually by the pre-starter to prepare for start. From the pre-start area to the start line there is approx. 150 meters, in which the crew are expected to reach full speed before crossing the start line. It is not allowed to overtake between the "No-overtaking" buoy and the last buoy at the turn around. If the rules are not followed it could result in time penalties at the umpires decision.
- 4. The boats
-
For coastal boats no rules apply in Denmark yet. It will be possible to enter in coxed quad sculls and coxed fours (4x+ and 4+)
For inriggers, § 3 section 2 of DFfR's regatta rules is replaced by § 3 section 2 of DFfR's long-distance regatta rules, including the new bylaws:- All inriggers must have a bow ball fitted. For practical reasons coastal boats cannot have a bow ball fitted, so the requirement does not apply to them.
- Inriggers must be clinker-built, of wood or composite, with at least seven strakes. The centre line of the rowlocks may be placed no more than 4 cm outside the outer face of the planking. The inside height, measured at the deepest point on the horizontal line between the starboard and port gunwales at rowlock no. 1, must not be less than 37 cm. The width of the boat, measured from the outside to the outside of the planking, must be at least: at rowlock no. 1: 100 cm, at the forward bulkhead: 90 cm. In four-oared boats the minimum at the forward bulkhead is, however, 85 cm.
- Inriggers must meet the requirements of the type specification for touring boats and have a hatch in both the foredeck and the afterdeck. The forward hatch must be placed inside the breakwater. The hatches must be rectangular with a minimum size of: width 25 cm x length 40 cm. Two-oared inriggers must have a minimum weight of 85 kg. Four-oared inriggers must have a minimum weight of 110 kg. Lead under the floorboards or other artificially added weight does not count as part of the boat's weight in the 85 and 110 kg mentioned.
- The minimum weight excludes oars, life jackets, flag, pennant and bailer. During the race, wooden boats must have floorboards in the seat compartments of rowers 1 and 2 (and 3 and 4, if any) and the cox. Composite boats may be rowed without floorboards if they were built without them and otherwise meet the weight requirement. During the race the boats must carry a pennant, a touring flag, a bailer and life jackets.
- 5. The crew
- In all races (men, women and mix) a crew can be made up of rowers from more than one club. In Inrigger Men 2+ it is allowed to row with a woman as cox. In Inrigger Women 2+ it is not allowed to row with a man as cox. In Inrigger Mix 2+/4+ and Coastal Mix all crew combinations are allowed, including all-women and all-men crews.
- 6. Times
- Time calculation is settled as time trial with floating start.
- 7. Handicap calculation for inriggers and coastal boats
- The handicap for inriggers and coastal boats is calculated according to § 13 section 3 of DFfR's long-distance regatta rules. The calculation is made by the organising committee following guidelines set by LDKU. The mix races are open to all-women, all-men and/or club crews, but also to crews combined across clubs, genders and ages.
- 8. Seeding of the boats
- In each class the boats are started according to individual seeding. The fastest seeded boats will be started first.
- 9. Clothing
- Out of respect for the regatta and the competitors, each crew is encouraged to wear matching clothing.
- 10. Registration
- The ordinary registration must take place at least ten days before the regatta. Late sign-up of teams has to be applied at 18:00, two days before the regatta. For later sign-ups it cannot be guaranteed that the team can start.
- 11. Launching of boats
- Inriggers and coastal boats must be launched from Bryggens Roklub or Amager Ro- og Kajakklub (ARK), as the boats have to be checked by umpires for compliance with the rules on measurements, weight and equipment. If the boats are launched from other clubs (incl. Copenhagen Rowing Club) the team will not be allowed to participate in the race.
